One Final Note on pH and Acidosis
by LeeAnn Rahn

Acidosis, pH, and disease are all woven together in the intricate fabric of life (and death).  Our very lives are dependent upon the pH of our blood.  Your blood must maintain its pH in a very narrow range, otherwise known as homeostasis, in order for our survival.  Our body tissues and organs, on the other hand, sometimes become toxic waste dumps.  If we develop large amounts of acid in our body (via food, chemicals, toxins, over exertion, emotions, etc.),  and our blood no longer carries sufficient levels of buffering minerals to neutralize the acids, our body must neutralize the acids via various other methods.  Unfortunately, many times that means enveloping the acid in cholesterol or fat and moving it to your cells or organs to allow your blood to return to homeostasis (a life sustaining process).

Dump enough acidic, toxic waste into your cells and you become the walking diseased.  A little morbid?  I guess so, but based on what most of us put into our bodies these days I'd say it is pretty accurate for many of us.

Can you go too far in the other direction?  Of course you can.  Excessive alkalinity is just as corrosive as excess acidity.  What are the chances you could be excessively alkaline?  Very slim I'm afraid.  Unless you are a vegetarian and only eat fruit and vegetables (mostly raw) and are in full control of all your emotions, it's not going to happen.

Our world of processed foods (almost all acidic by the way) has created a breeding ground for disease.  Disease, viruses, bacteria, and all the other creepy crawlies inside us absolutely thrive in acidic conditions.  An acidic environment's lack of oxygen is optimal for disease.

Can you eat a perfectly balanced diet, one that promotes an alkaline pH, and still be acidic?  Absolutely.  Your pH balance is also dependent upon emotional factors.  Emotional issues left unresolved will result in an acidic pH level.  Feelings of anger, resentment, fear, hate, jealousy, and mistrust can all cause a perfectly alkaline environment to turn acidic.  Feelings of love, hope, and joy are alkalizing.  Dealing with your emotions is an absolute necessary part of your voyage to alkalinity.  In addition, stress also plays a large role.  Stress at home, stress in the work place, stress caused by unruly children, financial issues, and marital issues all have a negative effect on the pH of your physical body.

So, I guess it seems like the deck is stacked against you.  I'm sure some of you will say "who cares, why fight a losing battle anyway."  Well, with that attitude, a lost battle is exactly where you are headed.  For others, the "fight or flight" response to a life and death battle is all that will put them on track to health.  Until their hand is forced, they will continue living life as they have for years - with little regard to their health.

For those of you who are willing to begin making changes to better your lives, alternatives other than just alkaline food and emotions exist.  You can drink pH enhanced water such as Xtreme2O.  Xtreme2O contains alkalizing minerals, electrolytes, and can raise the pH of up to 9.9.  Green drinks such as those made from green barley grass can be very alkalizing and nutritious as well.  Be careful here, some may detoxify you at an undesirable rate though.  Be sure to drink a lot of clean, pure water to help flush out the toxins.  In addition, many of the all natural, non-pasteurized super juices such as Himalayan Goji Juice, are nutritionally dense and can work wonders.  Don't forget moderate exercise is also alkalizing and get some rays.  Some daily sun exposure will provide you with all the natural vitamin D you need.  Without vitamin D, your body will be unable to properly synthesize calcium, one of the main buffers in your blood.
